THE 29TH ANNUAL MARVIN GAYE CELEBRATION

Washington DC: THE 29TH ANNUAL MARVIN GAYE CELEBRATION: Honoring our friend Ms. Beverly Lindsay-Johnson, hosted by our friend legendary DC area radio star "Dr. Nick"
Many of you here don't know the name, Beverly Lindsay-Johnson. But you should...and you should understand just why she deserves to be given some props, in her hometown of Washington DC:

--You may have met her at various doo wop/r&b events over the years in Washington, DC, Philly, NYC, Atlanta, etc. --You may have seen some of her award winning documentaries on TV or in other venues on Black culture over the years.
--You may have even met her at the Soul-Patrol Convention. --You may have heard me talking about Beverly Lindsay-Johnson & her accomplishments.
--She has been a fierce activist for the cause of Black music, past, present & future. (an institution which is actively trying to commit suicide on a daily basis)
--I can tell you from personal experience, that being such an activist for that cause is often quite thankless and you find yourself at times (many times in fact) wondering if the effort and the result are quite in line with each other.

I regard her as a "comrade in arms," and a real inspiration to me with respect to that cause. But more importantly as a friend and longtime supporter of what we attempt to do here on Soul-Patrol.com

THE 29TH ANNUAL MARVIN GAYE CELEBRATION:

WASHINGTON, DC - On April 3rd, 20013, the African American Music Association (AAMA), will hold its 29th Annual Marvin Gaye Day Celebration in the District of Columbia. This year's event will take place from 6pm until 10:30 pm at The Historic Howard Theatre, 620 T St., NW, Washington, DC, and will feature a HAND DANCE presentation, a live show by DC's own FATHER'S CHILDREN performing, a music tribute to Marvin Gaye, a presentation of the Outstanding Community Service Award to Ms. Beverly Lindsay-Johnson, producer of the Emmy Award winning documentary, Dance Party: The Teenarama Story and the award winning WHUT documentary, The Jewels: The Divas of DC Doo-Wop and her efforts in preserving the music and dance culture of Washington, DC, an evening of hand dancing to the music of DJ, Dr, Nick of WPFW 89.3 Radio.

Plus, a special cameo appearance by a surprise celebrity artist.

Born April 2, 1939 in Washington, DC, Marvin P. Gaye, Jr grew to become one of the most noted artists of the Motown sound. His music, especially that of his critically acclaimed What's Going On album (Motown 1971)-which included the songs "Save the Children" and "Inner City Blues"-transcends time and generational limitations with its messages of love, peace and global consciousness. AAMA Executive Director Saleem Hylton says that "Because of what's going on in the world today, Marvin's music is as relevant now as it was when he created it. The AAMA is committed to keeping Marvin's legacy alive by continuing to present this quality event to the community.
