Knicks Use Marvin Gaye’s ‘Lets Get it On’ in New 2011 Season Promo Video

Basketball They may all be teams in the same league with the same common goal, but that does not mean all NBA marketing departments are the same. Clearly, there are some different viewpoints across the league about what will get fans pumped up for the 2011-2012 season. Hardcore NBA fans are already excited for the season to start, having dealt with cancellations and CBA talk throughout the start of winter. The Celtics thought it would be a good idea to release
a promotional video that takes a direct shot at two of their biggest competitors — the Heat and Lakers. That’s certainly one way to get the fans amped up, but who says a little Marvin Gaye can’t have the same effect? The Knicks went there. Check out the new Knicks promo video that I Am a GM passed along:
I don’t think Marvin Gaye was talking about basketball in that song, was he? I mean “let’s get it on” could be taken in a variety of contexts, but something tells me the song had a different message behind it. In any event, A+ for the Knicks’ marketing department for creativity.
