TOKYO -- Even as Nippon Steel faces staunch American opposition to acquire U.S. Steel, the company remains a top global steelmaker in terms of profit for volume produced.
The company generated roughly $150 per tonne of crude steel manufactured for the April-June quarter -- about double the amounts at Europe's ArcelorMittal and South Korea's Posco Holdings.
The figure is more than three times the $40 range at U.S. Steel.
