The Return Of The New 8 Nations United Army
Japan, Germany agree to negotiate defense cross-servicing pact
MUNSTER, Germany/LONDON -- Given its experience of national reunification, Germany had long avoided taking a hard-line approach toward authoritarian regimes.
But Russia's invasion of Ukraine has changed Berlin's calculations. Now Germany is seeking to deepen security ties with like-minded democracies such as Japan.
Foreign and defense chiefs from Japan and Germany agreed Thursday to start negotiating a deal that would allow the countries' armed forces to mutually provide fuel and ammunition.
The acquisition and cross-servicing agreement would also make it easier for the two nations to hold joint exercises.
