Japan teams up with Finland on 6G development
TOKYO
-- In the race to set 5G global standards, China made significant
strides in promoting its own network. Japan, meanwhile, stumbled by
getting a late start.
Looking to avoid the same mistake, Japan's
telecom industry will team up with its Finnish counterpart in
developing communications technology for 6G.
Nokia, Nippon
Telegraph & Telephone and Japan's major mobile carriers will be
among the participants, with an eye toward taking the lead in crafting
6G standards.
Plans call for linking up with a similar American
organization, which includes telecom hardware supplier Cisco Systems
and chipmaker Intel, as Japan strives to increase its share of 6G
patents.
