New Zealand to 'reset' foreign policy on Indo-Pacific security
New Zealand is "resetting" its foreign policy as it seeks to deepen its engagement in security and defense areas in the Indo-Pacific, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon told Nikkei Asia.
"It's a reset to focus on the Indo-Pacific region because we think that is the region that we have a lot of national interests in," Luxon said during his three-day visit to Japan, his first visit to the country since he took up the post of prime minister last year. He specified that the shift in policy will aid the country's "national interest," as it aims to double exports, a feat that requires regional stability.
"We have an independent foreign policy that comprises our security and our economic interests. But both of those things are increasingly linked," Luxon explained.
