The Pretty Things - A Happy 40th Anniversary !

1st. British iconic progressive rock group signed to Motown's Rare Earth Label who originally formed in 1963. They took their name from Bo Diddley's 1955 song "Pretty Thing" and, in their early days, were dubbed by the British press the "uglier cousins of the Rolling Stones". Their most commercially successful period was the mid 1960s, although they continue to perform to this day. David Bowie covered two of their songs on his album Pin Ups. I managed to secure a copy of the original LP on Rare Earth Label last year from E-Bay:-

Parachute (2CD 40th Anniversary edition)
Pretty Things

Rare Earth/Snapper (UK), 1970 (originally released on EMI's Harvest Label)

Very dark work from The Pretty Things – an even more complicated, heavier-sounding album than SF Sorrow! The album's hardly got the lightness you might guess from its Parachute title – and instead, really shows the band moving into darker corners – both musically and lyrically, as they work in a heady brew of sophisticated guitar lines and adult song themes. And although former leader Dick Taylor's left the group, the other members are still holding down the fort nicely – hardly missing a beat here as they step onto a new level in their incredible stretch of growth. Titles include "The Good Mr. Square", "The Letter", "Rain", "Cries From The Midnight Circus", "Sickle Clowns", "Miss Fay Regrets", and "Grass". 13 tracks on the original album. This deluxe anniversary edition (40 years!!!) features the remastered original album most a second disc with bonus singles and B-sides, including "Blue Serge Blues", "October 26", "Cold Stone", "Cold Hearted Mama", "Summertime" and "Circus Mind. Bonus disc also includes 7 bonus re-recorded acoustic versions of original album tracks. 13 tracks on the bonus disc. (Limited edition. Deluxe packaging, too!)
