Cantor Fitzgerald CEO Howard Lutnick: "I'm Glad" Bin Laden Didn't Die Of Natural Causes

Cantor Fitzgerald is America's biggest bonds trading house.

Cantor Fitzgerald lost 658 staff on September 11.

The firm lost more workers than any other tenants in the World Trade Center or the NYPD or the city's fire department.

The firm's corporate headquarters and New York City office occupied the 101st to 105th floors of One World Trade Center; their office was thus 2-6 floors above the impact zone of one of the planes that crashed into the skyscraper.

This morning the CEO and chairman of Cantor, Howard Lutnick, whose brother was killed in the attack, spoke to CBS' Early Show about his reaction to Osama Bin Laden's death.

Chris Wragge asked Lutnick how he felt when he first heard the news, to which he responded:

Well, exhale. You know, you've been waiting for this for a long time. I mean the guy got away for 10 years with killing my brother and 658 of the people who worked with me. And I know their families really well. And it was time. And I'm glad we got him.

I was afraid at first that maybe he'd died of cancer, which sort of would have left a big open sore there. But at least we got him.

Lutnick said his phone was "on fire" last night with a parade of calls from Cantor workers and families, after the news broke.

"It's been a very, very tough 10 year," he added. "But, you know, that period's now -- you know, at least
it ends with -- with Osama bin Laden getting killed." He emphasized, however, that Bin Laden's death still won't bring back lost childen; brothers; sisters; parents; and that it will be difficult for families to watch the footage of 9/11 that will no doubt be replayed as a result of the news.

Wragge finished up by asking whether Lutnick ever believed this day would come.

"I always hoped," Lutnick said. "But, you know, after a while... 10 years, you're sort of thinking that -- my fear
was not that he would die, but that he would die of natural causes and sort of act like he'd gotten away with it. So finally it's here. And I'm glad."
